Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer. The 26-year-old defender is nearing a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge, with his contract at Fulham set to expire at the end of the month. Despite offers from elsewhere, Adarabioyo is attracted to Chelsea's project.


Newcastle United remain interested in the former Manchester City defender, but Chelsea are increasingly confident they can secure his signature over their Premier League rivals. The Blues need a new central defender following Thiago Silva's departure to rejoin Fluminense as his contract expired.


Trevoh Chalobah has garnered interest from other Premier League clubs, and Chelsea are open to selling the 24-year-old defender this summer. As an academy product, any sale of Chalobah would be pure profit, helping the club align with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).


Adarabioyo, who turns 27 in September, doesn't typically fit the profile Chelsea's co-sporting directors usually target, as the club prefers younger players. However, given Adarabioyo's talent and availability on a free transfer, the club believes it is a 'no-brainer' to sign him,. Despite missing nine matches due to groin surgery at the start of the campaign, Adarabioyo made 20 Premier League appearances for Fulham last season.


Adarabioyo has high ambitions, aiming to eventually join the England setup. In an interview with The Times earlier this year, he expressed confidence in his abilities, saying, "England have good center-halves like [John] Stones, but I would definitely back myself to be a top international footballer. Every player has ambitions to reach those tournaments, just like I have ambitions to reach the highest points of club football too. We all know my contract is up in the summer but all things are still possible. My main focus is on having a good end to the season."
